Sarah Kyle Interiors was commissioned to design a specialist early years setting for children with autism and special educational needs.  The brief was to create an inclusive, nurturing environment that balances functionality with a calming and welcoming aesthetic. 

A soft, neutral colour palette was carefully selected to create a sense of tranquility, complemented by diffused lighting to minimise glare and accommodate light sensitivities.  Natural light was maximised throughout, enhancing the sense of openness and wellbeing. 

Consideration was given to the sensory experience of each space, with tactile materials and carefully selected finishes providing gentle stimulation. Dedicated quiet areas offer children a peaceful retreat when they need time away from sensory activity. 

Nature-inspired murals bring warmth and character to individual therapy rooms, creating inviting spaces that encourage comfort, engagement and exploration. 

The result is a thoughtfully designed environment that supports children’s individual needs while creating a welcoming and inspiring space in which to learn, play and develop.
